FIRST STANDARD
is a unisex clothing brand founded in 2004 in NYC by Sergei Zolotariov. It offers a range of styles from classic American workwear to modern designs inspired by avant-garde and deconstruction movements.
The brand focuses on industrial and utilitarian design, using durable fabrics like denim and canvas. All garments are made in the U.S. with American made materials.
First Standard uses 1940s vintage industrial sewing machines by Union Special and Singer, which are renowned for their precision and durability. Union Special machines are famous for their chainstitching and coverstitching capabilities, often used in heavy-duty garments like denim. Singer machines, iconic in American manufacturing history, provide versatility and strength in stitching. These machines, built to withstand decades of use, contribute to the brand's focus on craftsmanship and durability, ensuring each piece is meticulously constructed with attention to detail and authenticity.

Sergei Zolotariov, designer-owner of First Standard Co.
“I was born in the Soviet Union, and denim was forbidden fruit. When I came to the States in the late 80s, I started collecting. I started my own line of jeans, jackets, shirts in 2004. It’s about taking denim to a higher level, making products unique by changing and customizing the details. I like to roll my cuffs high and mix up the periods.”
